WARSAW — The United Steel Workers Local 809 is working to make sure families in the community will not go hungry on Christmas this year.
USW prepared 259 meals for their eighth annual Christmas dinner give away on Friday, Dec. 23.
Each meal meal consisted of a ham, 10 pound bag of potatoes, two cans of green bans, two boxes of stuffing, two gravy packets and two boxes of pudding.
The group handed out meals to families at the Local 809 Union Hall, 420 Little League Drive, Warsaw from 2-6 p.m. The event operated on an honor system as individuals were not required to provide proof of need.
Tracie Hooker, financial secretary at USW, said union members gave money to buy the supplies to make the Christmas dinners. Workers and their families packed the meals before the giveaway.
The giveaway was scheduled from 2-6 p.m. today, however, individuals had lined up before the giveaway was even scheduled to begin.
