Billie Jo Hively
Billie Jo Hively, 81, Akron, passed at 7:15 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016 at Peabody Retirement Community of North Manchester.
He was born on May 2, 1935 in Akron to Sherman and Mary Josephine (Slaybaugh) Hively.
He owned BJ’s Clothing of Akron, Ind. and was a foreman for Chamberlain Products. He had also worked for several other factories.
He was a 1953 graduate of Akron High School where he had played basketball. He served his country in U.S. Army during the Korean War, stationed in Germany. He was a well-known horseshoe pitcher and an avid fisherman. He was rank 3rd in the nation and had won 2 State Championships.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Carol Jones, Akron; his step daughters: Adele Kindig, Sheila Hilker, Paige Levitz; his step sons: Scott Cumberland, Chad Cumberland; sever grandchildren and great grandchildren; his sister, Marvus Zimmerman, Akron; his step sisters: Shari (Terry) Burns, Twelve Mile; Crystal Hively, Rochester; nieces: Pam Romine and Deb Lee; great niece, Brittany Mills; great nephews: Brice Romine and Tanner Lee; special cousin, Larry Hively.
He was preceded by his parents; his step mother, Alice Hively; his step father, Nyle Merley; his step sister, Karen Gunter.
A visitation with family and friends will be held from 4-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 26 at Hartzler Funeral Home in Akron with a flag presentation taking place at 8 p.m. No other services will be held.
