NorthWood Swimming: Raiders Roll
MIDDLEBURY – At least they’ve got Rise N’ Roll, right? On a miserable day for travel, Northridge took care of business in its beautiful swim facility as the snow raged outside, beating NorthWood in boys and girls swimming. The Raider boys rose with a 141-36 win while the Raider girls rolled 141-42.
Northridge’s boys were utterly dominant, sweeping every category except backstroke and diving, and the Raiders have just one diver. NorthWood’s Caden Jenkins and Dylinn Hochstetler went one-two in diving with totals of 162.45 and 113.75 with Northridge’s Terik Jenkins third at 110.90.
NorthWood’s Michael Chupp was the only one to break through with a top three in swims, taking third in the backstroke at 1:14.91, an event won by Joey Garberick at 1:01.19 and Ryan Diamond second at 1:06.08. Garberick was the only double-event winner for Northridge, also taking the 200 free at 1:55.92.
Winning events for Ridge included Connor Glenn in the IM (2:03.86), Dylan Piehl in the 50 (25.19), Michael VanCoppenolle in the butterfly (56.84), Diamond in the 100 (56.13), Camden Koch in the 500 (5:01.20) and Camden Lacey in the breaststroke (1:05.91). Winning relays for Ridge were the medley (1:50.59), the 200 (1:37.92) and the 400 (3:38.00).
Ridge’s girls weren’t as powerful, but won all 12 events. NorthWood’s lone claims to the top two were the 200 free relay in second at 2:16.95 and Megan Miller in the 200 free taking second 2:43.95.
Northridge would sweep six events and went 1-2 in the other four. Sydnee Emerson was a double winner in the 500 (5:14.65) and the backstroke (1:02.58). Winning other events for Ridge included Janelle Burbrink in the 200 (2:12.97), Lauren Miller in the IM (2:14.81), August Hartzell in the 50 (26.67), Sara Troyer in diving (279.70), Katie Hughes in the butterfly (1:01.17), Caitlin Clark in the 100 (59.29) and Jenna Miller in the breaststroke (1:21.18). Winning relays for Ridge were the medley (2:02.71), the 200 (1:51.85) and the 400 (4:20.61).
NorthWood returns to action Jan. 5 with a non-conference swim at New Prairie. Northridge will return to its home pool Jan. 3 for a Northern Lakes Conference showdown with Wawasee.
