Vernon R. Spurlock Sr. — UPDATED
Vernon R. Spurlock Sr., 91, Mentone, passed at 7:35 am, Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016 at his residence.
He was born on Jan. 27, 1925 in Hernshaw, West Virginia to William and Beulah (Tucker) Spurlock.
He married on Oct. 10, 1943 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Elizabeth C. “Betty” Halstedt, she survives.
He was an office machine repairman. He had also worked at Victor Technologies and warehouse manager in Reno, Nevada.
He served his country in WWII in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Warsaw. He had been active in the youth little league and pony league of Warsaw. He went on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. on Oct. 1, 2014.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; his daughters: Kris (Chuck) Pletcher, Etna Green; Robin (Jon) Briggs, Mentone; sons: William (Rosemary) Spurlock, Warsaw; Vernon “Mike” Spurlock Jr., San Antonio, Texas; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; a sister: Patsy (Ernest) Duncan, Columbus, Ohio; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his parents and sisters, June Schwin and Helen Arthur.
A visitation will be held from 2-3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 23 at the First Christian Church of Warsaw and a memorial serivice will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, also at the church. Burial will take place at Mentone Cemetery in Mentone.
Arrangements are entrusted to King Memorial Home 101 North Tucker Street Mentone.
