First Major Snowfall Of The Season
KOSCIUSKO COUNTY — The county saw its first large snowfall this weekend. All hands were on deck as county and town personnel attempted to keep the roads clean and safe for drivers during their morning commutes.
Many schools in the area are experiencing a snow day, including Warsaw and Whitko Community Schools. Some of the delays and closings came in as early as 8 p.m. last night, Sunday.
The snow may be the least of the county’s worries as the National Weather Service is forecasting some below normal temperatures for the upcoming week. Highs on Wednesday, Dec. 14, will struggle to maintain the teens, with lows falling into the single digits by Thursday morning, Dec. 15.
Westerly winds of 10 to 15 mph with higher gusts will cause wind chills to drop as low as minus 10 to minus 20 degrees Wednesday night into Friday morning. Highs on Thursday will remain in the single digits above zero with temperatures by Friday morning dropping to near or below zero in some areas.
The cold air will bring a chance of lake effect snow showers, but at the present time, no more major accumulations are expected in the near future.
