Triton Basketball: Trophy Time In Trojanland
ROYAL CENTER – It’s just a week into December, but there were trophies to be had Friday night at Pioneer. Chasing the coveted traveling HNAC trophy, Triton hoisted the new hardware piece after a 44-41 boys buckets win.
Triton jumped out to a 15-5 lead in the second quarter, only for Pioneer to rally to tie the game at 29-all after three quarters.
Big games from Zac Pitney, who scored 15 points and had a career-best 10 rebounds, along with 17 points and seven rebounds from Grant Johnson kept Triton on track. Dylan Hensley added four points and eight rebounds.
Trey Waddups led Pioneer with 22 points, hitting five shots from deep. The Panthers, playing in its first game of the season after following its football team to the state finals, had Keith Nies add nine points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Tye Orsund scored a game-high 12 points to boost the Triton JV to a 31-25 win over the Panthers. Orsund added six rebounds and Delano Shumpert chipped in seven points.
Triton (2-3, 1-0 HNAC) visits Bethany Christian Tuesday night.
