Gary L. Walter
Gary L. Walter, 63, Columbia City, died at 3:02 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, 2016, at Parkview Whitley Hospital following a brief illness.
He was born March 10, 1953 in Wolf Lake, a son of Arthur W. and Netha A. (Martz) Walter. His formative years were spent in Larwill. He graduated from Pierceton High School.
From 1977 until 1983 he served in the United States Marine Corps. Following his discharge, he resided in Columbia City.
He worked at Dana Weatherhead for 33 years, Polywood in Syracuse for five years and currently for Night Owl Cleaning.
He was a member of Eagles #1906, an avid bowler and golfer, and played softball for Kilgore Manufacturing for several years.
Surviving relatives include three daughters: Marie I. (Lance) Harter, Angi M. Walter and Crystal L. (Chad Steinke) Walter, all of Columbia City; ten grandchildren; a great grandson; four brothers: James Walter and Stephen Walter, both of Columbia City; Randall Walter, Huntington; and Franklin Walter, South Whitley; four sisters: Beverly Hatfield, Columbia City; Carol Rowland, Waynesboro, Tenn.; Margaret Kilgore, Columbia City; and Tina Kocher, Huntington; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Walter.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7 at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery with military honors presented. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
