Warsaw Wrestling: Tigers Finish Strong
VALPARAISO – The Warsaw wrestling team finished strong Saturday at the Valparaiso High School Duals.
The Tigers dropped their first two matches on the day before responding to win their final three.
Warsaw lost 57-15 to Noblesville and 42-33 to South Bend Adams to open the tournament. Coach Kris Hueber’s team then defeated Michigan City 65-18, Boone Grove 67-2 and Hebron 60-24 to finish out the day. Warsaw lost a total of just nine matches, including forfeits, in their final three rounds.
Seniors Kyle Hatch and Christian Taylor led the way for Warsaw as each went a perfect 5-0. Hatch, a two-time state finalist, pinned all five of his opponents. Taylor won twice by pins and also on a tech fall.
The Tigers also got strong efforts from Isaiah Owens and Andrew Owens. Isaiah Owens was 4-1 with three pins, while Andrew Owens was 3-1 with a pair of pins.
The quartet of Brock Hogenson, Danny Zamora, Grayson Drudge and Michael Castro all went 3-2 for Warsaw, with each getting two pins.
Warsaw, now 8-8, will host Plymouth in a Northern Lakes Conference match Tuesday night. The matchup is the final home meet of the season for the Tigers and will also be Senior Night.
