Warsaw Swimming: Boys First, Girls Second In Own Invite
WARSAW – The Warsaw swim teams put on a strong showing Saturday in their own invitational.
The boys team repeated as champions, while the girls squad earned a runner-up finish in the event.
The Tigers piled up 626.5 points to easily claim the title. Fort Wayne Northrop was second with 364 points, followed by Fort Wayne Snider (351.5), Muncie Central (290) and Wabash (251) in the final team standings.
Warsaw won a pair or relay events and two individual races en route to their title.
Hudson Snyder was first in the 500 freestyle for the hosts with a winning effort of 5:09.98. Grant Knight took first in the 100 breaststroke race in a time of 1:01.90 for the Tigers.
The Tigers also got a winning effort from the team of Knight, Alex Cook, Evan Borchers and Nick Zogbi in the 200 medley relay event in a time of 1:41.59. The 400 freestyle relay team of Cook, Zombi, Snyder and Borchers were also winners in a time of 3:29.78.
Perennial power Riley flexed its muscles by scoring 692 points to earn the girls’ team title. Warsaw was second with 438, followed by Snider (390), Northrop (248), Muncie Central (216) and Wabash (104).
The outstanding duo of Brenna Morgan and Delaney Wihebrink led the Warsaw ladies. Morgan was second in the 50 freestyle, while Wihebrink was runner-up in the 100 backstroke.
The Warsaw girls also placed second in the 200 medley relay event with the team of Morgan, Wihebrink, Olivia Herman and Taylor Gunter. The team of Herman, Morgan, Wihebrink and Laurel Moeller was second in the 400 freestyle relay race.
Both Warsaw teams, who are each 2-0 in Northern Lakes Conference action, will host Northridge Thursday in a huge league meet at 5:30 p.m.
