NorthWood Basketball: Panthers Edge Slicers
NAPPANEE – The NorthWood girls basketball team fared just fine Saturday after a quick turnaround.
The host Panthers, who opened league play with a win at Concord Friday night, edged past a strong LaPorte team 43-42 Saturday afternoon.
The contest was tied at 5-5 after the opening period before NorthWood took a 20-17 halftime lead. The Panthers led 29-22 after the third quarter before holding off the Slicers in the final frame for the win.
Mackenzie Bergman poured in a game-high 18 points to pace the winners. The sophomore drained four treys in the win.
Savannah Feenstra chipped in with 15 points for the Panthers, who won their third straight game to improve to 7-2.
Junior Jacqueline Leal scored 14 points and sophomore Riley Ott added 12 to lead LaPorte, which saw its four-game winning streak stopped to fall to 6-3. The Slicers had posted a 50-44 win at Valparaiso Friday night.
NorthWood won the junior varsity game 48-41 to move to 9-0 on the season. Emily Demitruk scored 14 points and Lexi Parisi finished with 12 for the undefeated JV Panthers.
NorthWood hosts Elkhart Memorial and LaPorte entertains Merrillville in conference games next Friday night.
