Community Uses Painted Rocks To Spread Joy
HEADLAND, ALA. — Through a fun interactive game, the city of Headland is attempting to spread joy this holiday season.
Called “Headland Rocks!” the goal is to spread joy throughout the community.
How you play the game is simple, find a rock, paint a rock, and then hide a rock. The brightly-colored and festive rocks could be anywhere from the playground, around the square, in the grocery store aisle, or even at the police station.
It’s not just young children who are taking part in the games, but people of all age groups.
“It’s like Easter every day for them. They are having a lot of fun, both painting the rocks, and finding them, and it’s taking people to parts of the community they probably haven’t visited in awhile,” Rhonda Harrison, Executive Director of Headland Area Chamber of Commerce.
In a little more than a week’s time, the amount of people participating through the Facebook group jumped to more than 700.
“Headland is one of those communities that comes together behind anything that is going on. If somebody is having a hard time, if a business is having a hard time, or if there is some kind of activity, our people really come together for things like that,” said Harrison.
The Headland Area Chamber of Commerce hopes to incorporate the painted rocks into the Daylily Art and Garden festival that comes to town in May.
