Sarah A. Smith — UPDATED
Sarah “Sally” A. Smith, Leesburg, passed away at 7:25 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 24, 2016, at Mason Health and Rehabilitation Center, Warsaw, at the age of 85.
She attended Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis, graduating in 1949. She then attended Franklin College and received her Bachelor’s degree in 1953. While there she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Many of her younger years were spent as a summer resident at Lake Tippecanoe with her parents. She was a camper, counselor and teacher at Camp Tippy on Little Tippy for a number of years. Sally was an expert seamstress making many clothes and accessories for herself and family members. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Warsaw and was active in UMW, served on several committees, and was a member of Fidelity Sunday School Class. She was also a member of P.E.O. Sisterhood EJ Chapter, and the Lake Tippecanoe Property Owners Association. She was an avid reader, visiting the Warsaw Public Library once a week for many years. Sally enjoyed traveling, bowling, cross-country skiing, walk-a-thons, swimming and boating. She was a full time resident of Lake Tippecanoe since 1989 and enjoyed the lake to the fullest.
Sally was born on July 30, 1931, in Indianapolis, to Lena Irene (Kendall) Asher and Homer C. Asher. On June 25, 1955, she was married to Robert “Bob” E. Smith, who survives in Leesburg.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, as well as her son: Dean A. (Bridgette) Smith, Clinton Township, Michigan; two daughters: Gwen Shutters, Plainfield; Karen Ayoub, Warren, Mich.; and five grandchildren: Christian Ayoub; Amanda and Nicholas Shutters; Morgan and Mason Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3 at First United Methodist Church, 179 S. Indiana Street, Warsaw, Indiana and officiated by Chaplain Bob Jarboe. There will be time for visitation prior to the service from noon to 1 p.m. at the church.
Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana.
