IUSB Golf: Program Signs First Three Athletes
SOUTH BEND – The Indiana University South Bend women’s golf team is set to begin action in the fall of 2017. Head coach Chelsea Crow announced the addition of her first three signees on Monday afternoon.
Madison Gayer (Elkhart, Ind. / Jimtown High School)
Madison is finishing up her prep career at Jimtown High School. Gayer began playing golf her junior year of high school and was a natural. Receiving the teams most improved award, Gayer averaged a score of 63 with a low round of 48. During her senior season this fall she showed more improvement averaging a 51 and firing a 39 for her low round while receiving multiple team awards.
Away from the links, Gayer was a member of the Student Leadership Group as well as being on the honor roll.
Madison plans to study radiology at IU South Bend.
Taylor Glass (Columbia City, Ind. / Columbia City High School)
Taylor was a four-year member of the Columbia City golf team that showed improvement every season. During her sophomore season she was named the Tina Parker Memorial Award recipient which goes to the teammate that displays leadership and support. Glass shaved five points off her average from her sophomore to junior season and received the Coaches Award for having a positive attitude and being a team player. In her final season with the Eagles she led the team with a 50.1 average which earned her the team’s co-most valuable player and low scoring average award.
Taylor was named to the 2016 Academic All-State Honorable Mention team for her success in the classroom. Taylor was involved in the National Honor Society and was the Key Club treasurer.
Glass plans to study nursing at IU South Bend.
Erin Trabert (Columbia City, Ind. / Columbia City High School)
Erin will join her high school teammate, Taylor Glass next year at IU South Bend. Trabert show a lot of improvement from her sophomore to junior season as she shaved nearly seven strokes off her average. Her 54.1 average helped the Eagles qualify for the team regionals during her junior year and earned her the first of two mental attitude awards she would receive during her career. Erin’s nine-hole average dropped to 50.1 in her senior season which helped her earn co-most valuable player with Taylor Glass.
Erin is a member of the National Honor Society and is also in the top 10 in her class. Outside of school Erin is a 10-year member of 4-H.
Erin plans to study dental hygiene at IU South Bend.
