Triton Tournament: Tigers Run Away From Warriors
BOURBON – Lebanon used a monster third quarter to separate from Wawasee to win the Triton Girls Basketball Tournament Saturday.
A skimpy 19-17 lead for Lebanon at the half all of a sudden exploded to a 38-22 advantage after a 19-5 third quarter. Brooke Montgomery was in the middle of it all, scoring nine of her game-high 20 points in the frame. Kassidi Cadle had nine points to help to the Tigers (5-3) to the championship.
Wawasee (3-4) had five different players score in the first half, but only Aubrey Schmeltz finish in double figures with 11 points. Hannah Haines added six points on a pair of threes.
In the consolation game of the tournament, Triton (1-7) scored its highest point total in more than two weeks, but came up short in a 40-51 loss to Leo.
Hannah Wanemacher shook out of her scoring slump with 20 points, hitting six three-pointers in the game. Nicole Sechrist added 10 points and three rebounds and Charlotte Morris and Kaitlin Bailey each hauled in five boards in the loss.
Leo (6-2) had Abbie Heischman lead the way with 18 points and Sophia Pierce toss in 17 points. Hannah Adams had 10 points and six rebounds in the middle.
The game was tied at 25 at halftime, only for the Lions to run out a 12-4 third quarter advantage that made the difference in the contest.
Morning Sessions
In game one of the day, Wawasee won a low-scoring affair, 28-25, against Triton.
Schmeltz led the Lady Warriors with eight points and four rebounds, with Haines on track with seven points, four boards and three steals.
Triton doubled its point total from its first three quarters – 12 – with 13 in the fourth quarter. Wanemacher made all four of her shots from behind the arc, finishing with 13 points. But the Trojans got little else from the roster, with Courtney Jennings scoring six points but no other Trojan with more than one basket made. Triton shot 9-34 from the floor, an icy 3-17 in the first half.
In the second game of the morning session, Lebanon defeated Leo 51-41. Statistics for the game were not provided.
