Grace Basketball: Lady Lancers Roll In Polston
WINONA LAKE – Grace’s women’s basketball team opened up the Wyndham Garden Terry Polston Hoops for Hope with a resounding 86-35 victory over Silver Lake College on Friday night.
The Lady Lancers (4-4) dominated in all facets of the game with every player contributing to the stat sheet en route to a season-high 51 point margin of victory.
In the opening minutes of the game, Grace ratcheted up the defense, forcing the Lakers into multiple turnovers to jump out to an early 11-1 lead. Silver Lake, however, shook off the early jitters to get within two midway through the first period.
While holding a 19-13 lead to start the second quarter, Grace spread the ball around as Chloe Pridgen, Pam Miller, Vironnica Drake and Haley Richardson chipped in a pair of buckets each to stretch the lead and take a comfortable 43-24 advantage at halftime.
The second half presented much of the same as the Lady Lancers used a 29-4 run, sparked by eight points from Brooke Sugg, to come away with the 86-35 rout. Overall, Grace
Throughout the game, coach Scott Blum was able get everyone involved. Grace scored 38 points off the bench while shooting 41 percent from 3-point range and 37 percent overall from the field in the contest.
Grace’s defense gave the Lakers issues from start to finish. The Lady Lancers tallied 27 steals while forcing Silver Lake to commit 35 total turnovers. In addition, the Lakers were held to just 11 second half points and a season-low 26 percent field goal percentage for the game.
As a team, Grace outrebounded Silver Lake 67-31 with 31 offensive boards leading to 14 second-chance points.
Drake led all scorers with 18 points, adding five assists and two steals. Kelsie Peterson was a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc to chip in 12 points with four steals. Richardson was an effective 6-for-9 from the floor to tally 12 points, 7 rebounds and 1 block.
The Lady Lancers will take on No. 17 Pikeville on Saturday at 2 p.m.
