Phyllis Jean Crace
Phyllis Jean Crace, 91, Columbia City passed away at 6:06 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016 at her son’s home.
Born Jan. 1, 1925 in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of Joe B. and Naoma R. (Humphries) Trump.
She graduated from Columbia City High School with the Class of 1943 where she played on the very first High School Girls Basketball Team. On June 1, 1947, she married Kenneth Crace in Columbia City. Phyllis worked in the offices of General Electric for 15 years before being associated with Peoples Bank. She retired in 1991 as an assistant manager and soon assisted her husband in the operation of Ken Crace Real Estate and Appraisal, Inc. She had been a member of Columbia City United Methodist Church where she was on the church board, the Building Committee, a sunday school teacher, Phoebe Circle, UM Women and Administration Council. She also had been a member of Sorosis Literary Club, Whitley County Compassionate Friends, Light House Homeless Shelter board member and historian, the Columbia City Park Board and Delta Theta Tau Sorority.
Survivors include her son, David (Jo) Crace, Churubusco; two grandchildren: Aimee (Nicholas) Wentworth, Angola; and Philip (Sirena Rodrigues) Ellert, Columbia City; four great grandchildren and four nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ken Crace; son, Matthew Crace; brother, Robert Trump; half-brother, Harold Lancaster, half sister, Pauline Goldsworthy and niece, Ginny (Trump) Coco.
Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15 at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor David Arnold officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhill Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in her memory to American Cancer Society or Columbia City United Methodist Church Phoebe’s Circle.
