Bedke Among Indiana XC All-Stars
TERRE HAUTE – Manchester’s super senior Rae Bedke and two key members of Fort Wayne Carroll’s state champion boys cross country team hope to work their magic one more time on Saturday, Nov. 19.
Bedke, who was a state medalist at the 2016 IHSAA Cross Country State Finals in October, had a fantastic season that saw her win titles at the Three Rivers Conference championship and Culver Academy Sectional before taking third at the Culver Academy Regional and 18th at the New Prairie Semi-state. Bedke finished 25th at the state finals with a time of 19:06.
Carter Meyer and Dawson Winters, members of the Carroll squad that upset No. 1-ranked Carmel for this year’s IHSAA boys state championship, have been named to the Indiana All-Star Cross Country Team.
They will compete at the Mid-East Cross Country Championships in Kettering, Ohio, on Saturday, Nov. 19.
Much Like the Indiana-Kentucky All-Star basketball series, the Mid-East meet brings together top high school senior cross country runners from Indiana, Ohio, Michigan and Illinois for a unique state vs. state competition.
Indiana won both the boys and girls championships a year ago (2015).
The 5,000-meter races will be held at Indian Riffle Park, near Dayton, Ohio, with the girls starting at 11 a.m. (EST) and the boys slated for 11:30 a.m. (EST).
The Indiana girls team features Lake Central’s Sarah Hunsley, who finished fifth at the state finals, as well as Homestead’s Madison Distelrath, who led the Spartans to a third-place finish at the state meet, their best performance ever.
The Hoosier team was selected by the Indiana Association of Track & Cross Country Coaches (IATCCC) after reviewing results of the IHSAA state finals on Oct. 29.
Portage’s Jay White is head coach for the Hoosier teams.
