Warsaw Aldi Plans To Relocate To Husky Trail
WARSAW — Aldi has plans in the works to relocate from its current location on Commerce Drive, Warsaw, to the corner of Husky Trail and Parker Street.
Matt Brown with A & F Engineering, a company based out of Indianapolis, presented findings from a traffic study to Warsaw Traffic Safety Commission on Wednesday, Nov. 2. The traffic study was completed on behalf of Aldi, to plan how the relocation will affect traffic in the area. This was the sixth study A & F Engineering has completed for this area.
This study consisted of collecting traffic data from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on a day in September. A camera recorded traffic during that time to allow them to get an accurate representation of how much traffic goes through the areas of Husky Trail, Parker Street and Patterson Road.
A and F Engineering added the new data it had gathered, with the information it already had about how much traffic Aldi typically gets. This information will help city officials decide what traffic changes may need to be made to the neighboring streets.
It was discussed whether or not the traffic data collected demonstrated a need for a traffic light to replace the stop signs at the four-way intersection of Husky Trail/Patterson Road and Parker Street.
Brown stated, “I’m not sure if I’m in favor of a signal.” Brown indicated adding another traffic light so close to US 30 could cause problems due to the fact the timing of the traffic lights of US 30 are controlled by the state, while the timing of a traffic light on Husky Trail/Patterson Road and Parker intersection would be controlled by the city. However, Brown said it could be possible and similar projects had been done previously, it would just be an inconvenience.
City Planner Jeremey Skinner stated there is no specific timetable right now for when Aldi will be moving. The grocery store is just in the planning stages currently but may begin construction within a year.
