Warsaw High School Students Host Anti-Bullying Balloon Release
WARSAW — Around 100 Warsaw Community High School students gathered on the football field today, Oct. 27 for an anti-bullying balloon release.
The release was hosted by the Kosciusko Cares iCare Youth Coalition. Similar releases are happening at Tippecanoe Valley High School and Wawasee High School.
“The Kosciusko Cares iCare Youth Coalition is sponsoring a balloon release at each local high school in order to bring awareness to bullying in the County and to bring hope that in the future, all Kosciusko County residents will treat each other with kindness and compassion.” said Heidi Blake, Kosciusko Cares Youth Coalition Liaison.
During Warsaw’s release, WCHS student Mason Metzger spoke.
“Today we are here to take a stand as a team against bullying,” he said. “Obviously you can see that I am different … but I want us all to embrace diversity. I may be different but I do not let my disability define me. Each one of you plays a role in making WCHS a family. My challenge for you is to stand up if you see someone being a bully.”
Several WCHS Kosciusko Cares members also spoke before the balloon release.
“Right now as we release the peace, we make the promise to end bullying,” said Abby Smith.
Metzger then led the countdown and the students released the orange balloons into the sky. Several students wrote notes on their balloons to join in on the cause.
