Kosciusko Community Senior Services to host Sunrise Breakfast
WARSAW — The Kosciusko Community Senior Services board of directors and staff will be hosting a special fundraising event at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 28. The event will be held at the senior center located at 800 N. Park Avenue. Community and business leaders from throughout Kosciusko County will be in attendance.
David Neff, executive director, will kick off the event. Guest speakers will include Mayor Joe Thallemer, Scott Tucker, co-president of Maple Leaf Farms and Kirk Ray, chief executive officer of Kosciusko Community Hospital.
Guests in attendance will enjoy a one-of-a-kind breakfast buffet experience while learning more about Kosciusko Community Senior Services and the pivotal role the organization plays in improving the quality of life for seniors throughout the county.
The Kosciusko County Council on Aging and Aged Inc. was founded in 1957 by a number of citizens working in a voluntary capacity to provide home-delivered meals to older citizens. The agency was incorporated in 1967 as a not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) organization. Now known as Kosciusko Community Senior Services, 15 board of director members and the executive director have as their primary purpose the development and coordination of programs to meet the needs of over 14,000 older citizens in Kosciusko County.
KCSS receives state and federal funding through the Area 2 Agency on Aging located in South Bend. They also receive funds from the United Way and the Kosciusko County Council/Commissioners. KCSS focuses on three primary programs. This includes Mobile Meals, handicapped van Transportation, and the operation of the Senior Activity Center. KCSS provides over 35,000 mobile meals each year. They also provide emergency frozen meals for clients when weather does not permit daily delivery. The van transportation services provided by KCSS conduct over 14,000 rides each year. The Senior Activity Center operates 5 days a week, providing a variety of informational, educational, and recreational activities.
