Historical Society Pieces Together History
WARSAW — The Kosciusko County Historical Society celebrated its 51st annual banquet by “Piecing the Past Together” and looking at the puzzle pieces of history that have made Kosciusko.
The banquet was held at the Center Lake Pavilion on Wednesday night, Oct. 19. Over 130 guests enjoyed a catered dinner provided by Classic Catering, Pierceton, while the society elected new officials, gave a special thanks to all of its volunteers and reenacted pieces of the past.
Board officers elected were Ken Fawley, second vice president; Loran Sims, secretary; Dan Coplen, county historian; Sally Hogan, membership. Board members elected were Carolyn Fawley, Harry Gigous, Evelyn Rake, Ann White and Pam Carroll for one year to fill the term of Bob Robinson who passed away.
Society Librarian Sharon Sucec gave thanks to all the volunteers who put in countless research hours to make “Indiana at 200” possible. The book was available for sale at the banquet along with the newly released “Schools of Kosciusko County, 1835-1975.”
The society library is also working on identifying people in pictures, with some people in pictures included in “Schools of Kosciusko” still unidentified. “If you recognize anyone,” said Sucec, “let us know. We keep a copy in our library with hand written names.”
Historical Museum Director Sally Hogan wrote, directed and produced 19 pieces of Kosciusko history for the evening, starting at 1833 with land swindlers and taking claims on local land and ending with what is to come. Some moments in time included the start of Depuy Synthes and Zimmer-Biomet, Mayor Paul E. “Mike” Hodges getting his way and celebrating Warsaw basketball champions 1976, 1978 and 1984.
Several mums, books and society memberships were given away in a raffle to end the evening.
