Whitko Football: Tigers Edge Wildcats
PERU — The Peru football team escaped Whitko 35-32 Friday night in the TRC playoff. The Wildcats put up 26 points in the first quarter while Peru posted 21 but it was hard for Whitko to score much after that.
Peru scored 14 points the next two quarters while Whitko would not score again until the fourth. The Wildcats turned the ball over three times while Peru escaped without having any turnovers.
The Wildcats were led offensively by Garrett Elder’s 173 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Hunter Reed added 95 yards on the ground. Colin Craig threw for 91 yards and ran for a score. Conner Sherwin led Whitko with 19 tackles.
Peru was led by Jordan Rader and Gavin Gysin. The duo combined for 210 yards rushing and four scores (two each). Austin Strong had 140 receiving yards and the team’s only scoring reception. Robert Cunningham threw for 185 yards and one score.
Whitko (6-3, 4-3) will play at Central Noble in the first round of sectionals next Friday. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
