LIGONIER – West Noble’s course became the end of the trail for Whitko senior Hanna Yohe.
The lone runner for Whitko at the West Noble Girls Cross Country Regional Saturday morning, Yohe ran a 22:40 to finish 70th overall, well outside of the top 10 individual places to move onto the semi-state round next weekend at IPFW.
Yohe qualified for the regional by placing 10th at the Fort Wayne Northrop Sectional last weekend, but was well off the pace Saturday at West Noble. The tenth place time was run by Westview sophomore Jewel Helmuth, who clocked 20:38.
Fort Wayne Carroll claimed the team championship with a superior score of 33 points, almost twice as low as the runner-up score of 61 by Homestead. East Noble (59), Columbia City (125) and Fort Wayne Dwenger (133) also advanced to the semi-state. Westview (220) and West Noble (232) placed eighth and ninth, respectively in the team scoring.
Tyler Schwartz of DeKalb won the girl’s race with a time of 17:50.
In the boy’s race, Fort Wayne Carroll was the top dog with a score of 36, with Fort Wayne Concordia second at 72 and Westview third at 76. Fort Wayne Northrop (98) and Fort Wayne Snider (131) comprised the semi-state advancers. West Noble finished on the outside in sixth at 136.
Noah Steffen of Concordia won the boy’s race with a 15:59.
The New Haven Semi-state will take place Oct. 22 on the campus of IPFW, beginning with the girls race at 1 p.m.
