NorthWood Sports Wrap: Oct. 15
Volleyball
The NorthWood volleyball team posted a 2-2 record in the Tom Heck Tournament hosted by Penn on Saturday.
The Panthers beat Lawrence North 25-14, 25-16. Kennedy Wiens led the winners with 10 kills. Taitlin Trenshaw had 12 digs and Wiens nine and Alexis Klotz had two blocks. Courtney Lengacher had 14 assists.
NorthWood also defeated Homestead 25-18, 25-22. Wiens had 11 kills and Haylee Pennington seven. Wiens had 11 digs and Trenshaw six. Pennington had two block and Lengacher 26 assists.
Northridge topped NorthWood 25-21, 22-25, 19-17. Wiens led the offense with 13 kills and Pennington had four blocks and Wiens two. Trenshaw had 28 digs and Lengacher 20 assists.
Bishop Noll beat the Panthers 25-9, 25-17. Wiens had five kills, while Trenshaw had eight digs and Lengacher three aces and eight assists.
NorthWood, now 17-15 on the season, will play Wawasee next Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in a semifinal match of the Class 3-A Fairfield Sectional.
Boys Tennis
The NorthWood No. 1 doubles team lost in the championship match of the LaPorte Regional.
The Panther pair of Brant Mast and Cam Stillson dropped a 6-0, 7-5 final to the Penn team of Mason Lee and Cole Pollyea in the title match for No. 1 doubles team undefeated in the state tournament series.
Mast and Stillson beat Sean Smith and Ben VanBaalen of Peru 6-2, 6-2 in a semifinal match earlier in the day.
The Penn duo advances to the State Finals next Friday and Saturday at Park Tudor High School in Indianapolis.
