County BZA Approves Miller Petitions
WARSAW — Two petitions submitted by Garry Miller were approved by the Kosciusko County Board of Zoning Appeals during its regular monthly meeting Tuesday morning, Oct. 11, in Warsaw.
Miller asked for an exception to change or alter a previously granted exception by allowing a tract to be divided on property zoned industrial II. He also asked for a variance to allow multiple uses on industrial II property — five total — and to allow a new property line to be placed 16 feet from an existing building when the ordinance requires 20 feet. The property is on the west side of James Street at the intersection with Syracuse Street in Milford by the railroad tracks.
Matt Sandy, assistant planning director for the county, noted there are Quonset hut type buildings on the property. Miller was granted approval with the condition the buildings only be used for warehousing and storage.
Other agenda items included:
• Tim Hedrick’s petition for a variance to permit allowing an existing residence addition with open decking 22 feet from the right of way on CR 900S at the intersection with Smalley Lane in Seward Township was tabled until the Nov. 9 meeting because Hedrick was a no show.
• Javier Gonzalez was also a no show for his petition for a variance that would allow a tract to be split creating a line 1 foot from a north side line to an existing barn and 34 feet from the east sideline to an existing barn. The property is on the west side of CR 100E, north of CR 1300N in Van Buren Township. The petition was tabled until the Nov. 9 meeting.
• Jonathan Mock was granted an exception to allow agricultural equipment sales and service work in an agricultural district. The property is located on CR 800N, west of CR 620E in Turkey Creek Township.
• Melvin and Phyllis Shaul were granted a variance to allow an existing residence to be raised out of a flood zone on the northeast side of EMS B60D Lane in Tippecanoe Township. But they were denied the other request in their petition to have a pole barn built.
• Kerry Hughes requested his petition for a variance to allow a garage to be converted to a residence be tabled until Nov. 9, which was approved by the BZA, so Hughes could provide more information from the town of Pierceton. The variance would create two residences on one tract of ground on Catholic Street, east of Washington Street in Pierceton.
• Michael Niles was granted a variance to allow an overflow residence to be added to an existing garage on the south side of EMS T31 Lane, east of CR 300E in Plain Township.
• Randall Pollen was granted a variance to permit the construction of a residence addition on the north side of EMS B16 Lane, west of SR 13 in Tippecanoe Township.
• Jeffery Carey was granted an exception to allow an oversized accessory building in a residential district on the southwest side of EMS T19 Lane, west of CR 450E in Tippecanoe Township.
