LCA Soccer: No. 3 Dragons Sideline Cougars
ARGOS – The Argos boys soccer team lived up to its lofty ranking Saturday night.
The Class 1-A No. 3 Dragons topped Lakeland Christian Academy 8-1 in the Argos Sectional final.
Argos advances to play Oak Hill on Thursday at 5 p.m. in the Argos Regional. Rochester will face Lafayette Central Catholic in the second match Thursday night. The regional final is set for Saturday at 7 p.m.
The teams were scoreless through the first 20 minutes of play in the title game before the host Dragons scored first. LCA answered with a goal by Garrett McComb to tie the contest at 1-1. Argos responded with three goals before halftime to take control with a 4-1 lead at intermission.
The Dragons, who had a 30-4 advantage in shots and a 24-3 edge in shots on goal, added four more goals in the final half.
McComb’s goal for the Cougars was assisted by Noel Blum. Junior goalie Cross Williams had 16 saves for LCA.
LCA finishes its season 8-7-1.
Argos, which lost in the semistate semifinal a year ago, has now won six straight sectional championships and 11 overall in program history.
