Laura Shepherd — UPDATED
Laura Shepherd, 63, passed away at 2:04 p.m., Friday, Sept. 30, 2016 in Lakeland Regional Medical Center, Lakeland, Fla.
A resident of Lakeland for the past 11 years, she had spent most of her lifetime in the Warsaw area.
Laura was born on June 28, 1953 in Prestonsburg, Ky. She was the daughter of Ershell and Mable (Boggs) Calhoun.
On Dec. 6, 1975 Laura was married to Eddie Ray Shepherd in Packerton. Together they shared more than thirty years of memories. He preceded her in passing on Aug. 22, 2007.
Laura was a very social person. She had worked as a people greeter for Walmart in Warsaw and also after moving to Florida.
Her Florida-based grandsons were the light of her life though she always kept a special fondness for her Indiana home. She loved to return home and always made time during her trips to visit the shops in Shipshewana. She liked to play cards and occasionally tried her luck at gambling, too.
Laura is survived by but not forgotten by a daughter: Brandy (Sharice) Lawrence of Lakeland, Fa.; two grandsons: Isaiah Lawrence and DeMarcus Lawrence of Lakeland, Fla.; five sisters: Verline Nichols of Prestonsburg, Ky., Birdie (Ray) Wolfe of Pierceton; Verva McKorkle of North Manchester; Pat Whitaker of Warsaw; and Jessica Calhoun of Glasgow, Ky.; two brothers: Lester (Katherine) Calhoun and John (Teresa) Calhoun, both of Warsaw. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and a large extended family.
In addition to her husband, Eddie, Laura was preceded in death by her parents: Ershell and Mable Calhoun and two brothers: Taylor and Thomas Calhoun.
Family and friends may gather for a time of sharing and visitation at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 East Sheridan Street, Warsaw ,from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7.
A funeral service which celebrates Laura’s life will be held on Saturday morning at 10 am in the funeral home. Her nephew, Pastor Taylor Whitaker of Connections Outreach Ministries, Warsaw, will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton.
