WARSAW – K-County Junior Roller Derby had a scrimmage at Eastlake Skate on Sunday against Lake Effect Roller Derby from Hammond. Leading from the start, K-County maintained ahold of the bout in a 245-212 decision.
The teams have met and practiced together before, and previously this year met in Hammond for a scrimmage that brought Lake Effect out victorious but Sunday was a different story. The bout, intended as a teaching method for the kids in the derby program, had the reffing staff focused on teaching the kids the correct way to play, and teaching them the rules as they go. It was an educational experience for the children who are learning the rules of a sport that is accepting of all children no matter their height, weight, shape, or body type.
