Girls Golf: State Finals Wraps Up Season
CARMEL – Evansville North and Holly Anderson were the big winners Saturday as the IHSAA Girls Golf State Finals wrapped up.
North, ranked No. 2, claimed the team title with a two-day total of 618 to edge top-ranked Westfield by two shots.
Anderson, a senior at Columbus North, claimed the individual state crown at 146 after firing a round of 71 Saturday at the Prairie View Golf Club. She topped Chesterton sophomore Elyse Stasil by two shots.
Rochester senior Kinley Lingenfelter finished in 41st place with a 167. Lingenfelter, who was the individual champion of the Warsaw Sectional two weeks ago with a round of 67 at Stonehenge, shot 84 on Saturday.
Northridge freshman Braedyn O’Dell tied for 65th place at 177. O’Dell shot a 90 in her final round.
Penn, the lone area team among the 15 in the field, tied for 11th place with Hamilton Southeastern at 697.
Senior Nadia Sandler and freshman Lyvia Li led the Kingsmen as each shot 169. Senior Kristin Holt shot a 174, while freshman Grace Szklarek had a 185 and junior Abbey Hamilton a 192 for Penn.
North won its third straight state championship and Westfield was runner-up for the second straight year. North was on fire in the state tournament series. The state champions shot a 290 at the sectional two weeks ago, the lowest sectional team score in state tournament history, and then shot a 296 at the regional round, which was the second lowest regional score ever.
No. 4 Columbus North was third Saturday at 623. No. 5 Zionsville placed fourth with a 638 and No. 3 Carmel rounded out the top five teams with a 655.
The top three scores posted by Evansville North, Westfield and Columbus North rank as the third, fourth and fifth best totals ever at the State Finals.
