Golf State Finals Slowed By Weather
CARMEL – It was a long and trying day for those competing in the Girls Golf State Finals Friday.
The field saw a pair of lengthy weather delays totaling more than three hours as the event began at the Prairie View Golf Club.
The first day of the season finale was suspended at 7:21 p.m. with several teams and individuals not through their first round of play. Action is slated to resume at 8:30 Saturday morning.
Rochester senior Kinley Lingenfelter and Northridge freshman Braedyn O’Dell were among the individuals competing.
Lingenfelter, who was the Warsaw Sectional champion two weeks ago, was at 68 through 15 holes when play was stopped earlier tonight.
O’Dell, who earned her State Finals berth by shooting a 74 at the Easst Noble Regional last Saturday, was at 72 also through 15 holes when play was suspended.
Homestead was in the lead for teams that completed their first round Friday with a team total of 328.
A quartet of teams had not finished play with both Westfield and Evansville North at 257 through 15 holes and Columbus North at 259, also through 15 holes.
Penn shot a 347 in Friday’s first round. Senior Nadia Sandler led the Kingsmen with an 84. Senior Kristin Holt and freshman Lyvia Li each shot 85, freshman Grace Szlarek 93 and junior Abbey Hamilton 99.
