Falcons, Goshen Claim Tennis Sectional Wins
The undefeated Fairfield boys tennis team moved into the sectional final at Goshen with a semifinal win on Friday.
The Falcons topped Jimtown 4-1, while host Goshen beat Bethany Christian by a 3-2 count.
Fairfield, now 21-0 on the season, will play Goshen in the sectional final on Saturday. The match, weather permitting, will be played at 9 a.m. at Goshen Middle School. In the event of rain, it will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Warsaw Fitness and Racquet Club.
Fairfield got wins from Joel Mast at No. 1 singles and Isaac Miller at No. 3 singles to top the Jimmies. Also winning for the Falcons were the No. 1 doubles team of Jesse Grimm and Dylan Kaufman and the duo of Joel Kropf and Aaron Streit at No. 2 doubles.
Goshen stopped the Bruins with wins from Hugh Birky at No. 1 singles and Simon Myers at No. 2 singles. The No. 1 doubles team of Logan Troyer and Bobby Sessel also won for the hosts.
The Concord Sectional final Friday, pitting the host Minutemen versus Northridge, was postponed. The title is now scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday at Concord High School or at the Eastlake Athletic Club in Elkhart in the event of rain.
Concord, the NLC champions this season, sits at 12-4. The Raiders, who are the defending sectional champions, are 12-5.
The Bremen Sectional championship was put on hold until Saturday, pitting Bremen and Plymouth. The match will take place Saturday morning either at Bremen outdoors, or moved indoors at Culver Academy. The champion will move to the Culver Academy Regional Tuesday to take on Wabash in the regional semi-finals opposite Warsaw and Culver Academy.
