Taylor Shanes and Daniel Knecht Arrested On Theft Charges
WARSAW — Two individuals were arrested on charges of theft for stealing from Walmart.
Daniel Lee Knecht, 28, 6662 East CR 100N, North Manchester, is being charged with one count of theft, a misdemeanor.
Taylor Leigh Shanes, 24, 12355 North CR 800W, Silver Lake, is being charged with one count of theft enhancement, a level 6 felony and a one count of theft, a class A misdemeanor.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, an officer spoke with a Walmart Loss Protection manager, who advised Daniel Knecht and Taylor Shanes had stolen from the store earlier that day. The Walmart employee stated Shanes had had a duffel bag on her shoulder as she walked through the store. Knecht and Shanes went to the infancy department and selected infant shoes and clothing. They also went to the automotive department and selected oil filters.
Knecht and Shanes exited the store with a duffel bag that appeared to be full. The Walmart employee followed the subjects to the vehicle. After Knecht and Shane got into the vehicle, another male exited the same vehicle with two Walmart bags.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, The other male went to customer service and returned two oil filters, infant clothing and infant shoes without a receipt. He also obtained a Walmart gift card for $153.67.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, the male told officers he went to Walmart with Knecht and Shanes. He stated he stayed in the vehicle while Knecht and Shanes entered Walmart. After a short time, Knecht and Shanes returned to the vehicle and gave him two bags of merchandise and told him to return the items. Shanes had explained to him they did not have a receipt for the merchandise. The other male returned the merchandise and received a gift card. He purchased a phone card with the gift card and gave the rest of the money left on the gift card to Shanes.
Knecht was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Sept. 28 with a bond of $600 cash.
