NorthWood Sports Wrap: Sept. 29
Girls Soccer
The NorthWood girls soccer team closed out conference play with a 4-1 win at Wawasee.
The Panthers scored the final three goals of the game to earn their first Northern Lakes Conference victory of the season.
Avery Bontrager gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead, off an assist from Cindy Barahona. The host Warriors then tied the contest on a goal by Meg Heinisch.
NorthWood took a 2-1 halftime lead thanks to a goal by Betsy Nunemaker, assisted by Kali Parisi. Brittani Shields and Barahona each netted a goal in the final half for the Panthers. Cassie Yoder had an assist.
NorthWood had an 8-1 edge in shots on goal and also an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Wawasee goalie Kayla White had four saves.
NorthWood improves to 6-7-2 overall and finishes 1-5-1 in the NLC. Wawasee drops to 5-11 overall and concludes league play at 0-7.
The two teams will meet again next Thursday night in a semifinal game of the Warsaw Sectional.
Volleyball
The NorthWood volleyball team dropped a 3-0 final at Warsaw.
The host Tigers claimed the Northern Lakes Conference win 25-17, 25-15, 25-20.
Kennedy Wiens led the Panthers with 11 kills and Whitney Gessinger had four.
Taitlyn Trenshaw had nine digs and Gessinger six, while Wiens had one ace. Kenzie Moren had four blocks and Haylee Pennington three. Courtney Lengacher had 17 assists.
