Valley Tennis: Vikings Dodge Rain, Eagles
WARSAW – Threatening skies and an eventual downpour forced the opening round of the Warsaw Boys Tennis Sectional inside Wednesday afternoon. Moving to the Warsaw Tennis & Fitness Club, Tippecanoe Valley knocked off Columbia City under the protection of the roof, 4-1.
Valley earned all four of its court wins in straight sets, led by the singles play of Seth Hoffman at No. 2 and Eric Wright at No. 3, both with matching 6-0, 6-3 victories against Braden Baker and Jackson Longenbaugh.
At No. 1 doubles, Garrett Feldman and Dakota Parker won 6-0, 6-2 against Jordan Lee and Eli Jones, while Dylan Sponseller and Chris Schipper won 6-3, 7-5 over Garrett Arspach and Jacob Ionucilli.
Columbia City’s Dillon Reed rallied to beat Keith Wright 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1 singles to keep Reed’s season alive in the individual state tournament.
Valley’s win sets up a semi-final match against Wawasee at Warsaw Community High School Thursday afternoon, opposite defending champion Warsaw hosting Whitko. The matches are scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. but could be altered with the impending rain in the forecast.
