Grace Trio Saluted By League
WINONA LAKE – A trio of Grace College athletes have earned accolades from the Crossroads League.
The Grace cross country teams swept the weekly Runner of the Week awards from the conference.
Ben Rankin won the men’s award, while Emma Mitchell was honored as the standout women’s runner.
Rankin paced the Lancers in 20th place at the massive Brissman-Lundeen Invitational (over 290 runners). He finished in a time of 27:38.
Mitchell’s strong junior year continued as the team’s top finisher at the massive Brissman-Lundeen Invitational (226 runners in women’s race). She finished in 28th place in a time of 25:25, racing at the NCAA distance of 6k.
The Grace volleyball team also picked up an honor as senior Taylor Baird was named the Crossroads League Setter of the Week.
Baird’s well-rounded week included 10.1 assists, 1.9 digs and 0.8 kills per set as the team’s setter.
She had a double-double in just four sets against Marian with 43 assists and 10 digs. Baird also produced 48 assists, 7 digs, 5 kills and 1 ace in a win over Huntington.
Baird’s league award is her second of the season after winning the honor on Aug. 22.
