Jack N. Powell
Jack Nelson Powell, 87, passed away Sept. 22, 2016, at his home in Warsaw.
He was born Dec. 9, 1928, in Clunette to Graydon Powell and Mildred (Miller) Powell. On April 18, 1948 he married Virginia May Smith in Atwood. Virginia proceeded him in death in 2014; they had been married 66 years.
He was a 1946 graduate of Atwood High School and a lifetime resident of Clunette. He and his wife owned and operated the Clunette General Store for many years. Later, he operated Powell Building Service, constructing and remodeling many homes around the area. He retired in 2010.
Jack was also an accomplished inventor, artist, sign painter, craftsman, mechanic, pilot, square dance caller, race car owner and musician. No matter what he was doing, Jack was always focused on developing a system to make the task simpler.
Surviving are sons: Michael (Joan), Cincinnati; and Douglas (Deborah) Powell, Warsaw. He is also survived by his grandson, Andy (Kate) Powell; and great-grandchildren: Jack, Ben and Ellie of Cincinnati; his granddaughter, Kate (Justin) Hickey; and great grandchildren, Seth, Ryan and Gus of Columbus, Ohio; and grandson, Kevin (Melanie) Powell; and great grandchildren: Carson and Callie, Jasper. Jack is survived by brother, Fred (Nancy) Powell, who resides near Clunette.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Graydon and Mildred Powell, and sister, Ida Labelle Wray.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday Oct 29 at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 East Sheridan Street in Warsaw. Pastor Denny Bollenbacher, New Beginnings Community Church, Atwood will officiate the service. Burial is in Leesburg Cemetery, Leesburg. Calling will immediately precede the services from 10-11 a.m.
