Warsaw Sports Wrap: Sept. 22
Boys Soccer
The Warsaw boys soccer team dropped a 4-2 final at Goshen.
The host RedHawks, who are ranked No. 6 in Class 2-A, led 2-0 at halftime en route to the Northern Lakes Conference win.
Blake Burns and Eric O’cock each scored a goal for the Tigers.
Goshen improves to 9-1-3 overall and finishes at 4-1-2 in NLC play and in second place behind league champion Concord.
Warsaw falls to 4-8-2 overall on the year and moves to 1-4 in NLC action.
Warsaw won the junior varsity contest 2-0. Jorge Rico and Jacob Lalonde each had a goal for the JV Tigers, who improve to 7-2 overall and 3-2 in the NLC.
The Tigers host Wawasee Saturday in another NLC matchup. It will be a girls/boys doubleheader at WCHS with the girls junior varsity game at 10 a.m. followed by the girls varsity contest. The boys JV game is slated to begin at approximately 1 p.m. with the boys varsity match to follow.
It will be Senior Day for the Warsaw boys team on Saturday. There will also be a fundraiser at the games for Feed My Starving Children. Members of the boys soccer program are slated to help pack meals for the organization on Oct. 6.
Freshman Football
The Warsaw freshman football team posted a 14-10 win at Northridge.
Johnny Feldman rushed for 120 yards and scored one touchdown as the Tigers won the Northern Lakes Conference contest.
Wyatt Amiss was 9-15 passing for 125 yards for Warsaw, including a 75-yard touchdown toss to Jack Williamson. Harrison Mevis booted home a pair of PAT kicks for the winners.
The trio of Brock Huber, Feldman and Williamson led the way for the Warsaw defense in the win.
Warsaw, now 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the NLC, will host Goshen next Thursday at 6 p.m.
