Florida Man Caught Riding Manatees
ISLAMORADA, FLA. — A man from South Florida is facing charges for riding manatees, a protected species in Florida.
A Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission officer saw the man laying on top of, touching and disturbing the manatees in Library Creek in Monroe County last week.
A woman who went to the waterway to look for an injured manatee first spotted the man harassing the manatees. She then called the commission.
The FWC officer said as the manatees scattered away from the man, he swam after them and continued to mess with the manatees. He even told the responding officer the manatees swam up to him.
He was later arrested for being uncooperative and refusing to give identifying information to a deputy. He said he was homeless and wanted to go to jail.
