Ralph Eugene ‘Gene’ Barkdull, Sr.
Ralph Eugene “Gene” Barkdull, Sr., 83, Daleville, passed away Monday, Sept. 19, 2016 at his residence.
He was born in Anderson, Oct. 16, 1932, the son of Harry L. Barkdull and Beatrice Moon.
He was a 1951 graduate of Daleville High School and a veteran of the US Army.
He had lived his entire life in the Daleville area and was co-owner of the Daleville Gun Club. He worked for over 35 years at Barkdull Marathon and was a volunteer fireman and assistant chief.
Survivors are his wife: Nancy (Robbins), Daleville; four children: Robin Brown (Ross Turley), Chesterfield; Kim Freeman (Darwin), Dewart Lake; Nanette Phillips (Bob), Syracuse; and Ralph Eugene Barkdull, Jr., Dewart Lake; 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; one brother: Keith Barkdull (Jan), Chesterfield, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Rosemary Brown; brothers: Rex, Max, and Donnie Barkdull; and father and mother in law: Ora and Marcella Robbins.
A celebration of his life will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 8212 South Walnut Street, Daleville with Chris Nixon officiating.
Burial will follow at Saunders Cemetery, Daleville.
Friends may call on Friday from noon until the time of the services at 3 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Daleville Public Library and the Alzheimer’s Association.
