Grace Tennis: Ladies Net Another Victory
WINONA LAKE – The Grace College women’s tennis team earned its fifth win in the last six matches with a 5-4 victory over IU East Wednesday.
The Lady Lancers (6-3) grabbed a dominant 3-0 advantage after doubles to cruise to the win over the Red Wolves (4-2).
Grace switched up its usual doubles’ lineup on Wednesday. Carrie Copeland played her first match at No. 1 doubles, pairing with Jenna Jackson for an 8-0 blanking.
Natalia Kurkova and Gabrielle Lawrence cruised to an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles, and Mariah Lewis and Caroline Cassidy held on for a narrow 9-8 (7-5) victory at No. 3 to complete Grace’s perfect doubles’ start.
Kurkova set the tone for Grace’s singles’ lineup with a 6-2, 6-1 win at the top position. Copeland followed suit at No. 2 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 scoreline to clinch the match.
IU East made the scoreline closer by winning the bottom four singles’ positions, but the win was already secured for Grace.
The Lady Lancers’ homestand continues on Thursday with a 4:30 p.m. match against Saint Mary’s.
