Seymour Woman Dies In Jennings County Crash, Boyfriend Rescued Three Days Later
Indiana State Police found the body of Nikki K. Reed in the wreckage off the roadway of US 50. They also found her boyfriend, who had leg injuries. Both had been listed as missing after the Indiana State Police began a missing person investigation two days earlier.Family members told police they hadn’t heard from Reed, who had made a trip to Pennsylvania to pick up Kevin Bell, 39. Reed was last heard from on Saturday while driving back to Indiana with Bell.
Investigators learned that neither Reed’s family nor Bell’s had been able to contact them since Saturday.
Police believe Bell lost control of the 1999 Ford Explorer sometime Saturday and ran off the road in the 8600 block of East US 50. The Explorer traveled down the embankment and struck a tree head-on, killing Reed instantly. The crash scene was not visible from the road.
Bell had serious leg injuries and couldn’t get out of the vehicle until three days after the crash. He managed to crawl back to the road and get help.
Bell was transported to St. Vincent-Jennings Hospital in North Vernon for treatment of his injuries. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
Reed’s family has been notified.
Indiana State Police, Jennings County Sheriff’s Department, Jennings County Fire, Jennings County EMS, and the Jennings County Coroner’s Office assisted in the investigation.
