Grace Trio Earn Accolades
WINONA LAKE – A trio of Grace College athletes have been honored for their outstanding performances in the past week.
Following a historic week for the Grace men’s tennis team, Danila Kurkulin was named the NCCAA and Crossroads League Player of the Week.
Kurkulin won the ITA Regional Championship in singles’ play. He won all 6 matches in straight sets, becoming the first Lancer to win the event.
He advances to play at the ITA National Championship in October. He only dropped 16 games throughout the 64-person event and did not lose a set all week.
Natalia Kurkova became Grace’s third straight NCCAA Player of the Week winner for women’s tennis.
Kurkova repeats as the national award winner and follows Carrie Copeland’s award on Sept. 6.
She won the consolation bracket of the ITA Regional Tournament last week, cruising to win five straight matches to end the weekend.
Freshman Anna Marshall has impressed so far in her career for Grace’s women’s golf team and was honored as a result as the NCCAA National Player of the Week.
Marshall placed second out of 44 golfers at the challenging Quail Ridge Golf Club in Ada, Mich. She carded a 79 in the tournament to help the Lady Lancers to a second-place finish.
Marshall’s honor is the first Player of the Week award in the young program’s history.
