Warsaw Sports Wrap: Sept. 17
Volleyball
The Warsaw volleyball team went 2-2 to finish in fifth place in the Michigan City Invitational.
The Tigers beat NLC foe Concord 27-25, 25-2 and then lost to Fort Wayne Concordia 22-25, 25-15, 13-15 and Valparaiso 17-25, 20-25 before closing out the tourney with a win over Mishawaka 25-22, 25-21.
Leading the offense for Warsaw in the tourney were Nikki Parrett with a total of 34 kills and Alexie Day with 31. Hanna Leach had 19 kills, Kacy Bragg 10, Erin Peugh three and Rachel Yeager and Katie Swanson two each.
Peugh paced the defense with 51 digs. Day had 43, while Brynn Durecki had 33, Bragg 18, Parrett 13 and Cassadi Colbert 10. Bragg had 80 assists, while Leach had five blocks. Yeager and Bragg each had two blocks and Parrett and Day each had one. Parrett led the serving with 12 aces, while Bradd had four, Addie Dickerhoff two and Colbert one.
Warsaw, now 11-10 on the season, plays at Fort Wayne Carroll Tuesday with the freshman and JV matches at 6 p.m. and the varsity to follow.
Boys Soccer
The Warsaw boys soccer team notched a 4-2 win over Fort Wayne North.
The host Tigers got a pair of goals from Eric O’cock in the non-conference win. O’cock scored twice in the opening half, assisted by Tedros Berelsmann and Garrett Reinholt, to lead 2-1 at halftime.
Warsaw got two more tallies in the final half as Reinholt and Cole Voss each had a goal. O’cock picked up an assist on the Reinholt goal.
Warsaw improves to 4-6-2 on the season. The Tigers play at Fort Wayne Canterbury Tuesday night.
The Warsaw C team lost a 4-0 final to the North junior varsity team.
