Warsaw Ladies, Wave Host Soccer Camp
WARSAW – The Warsaw girls soccer team partnered with the Warsaw Wave in a community soccer outreach event on Saturday.
Around 75 children braved the wet weather to learn more about the sport they love and improve their skills. The campers were split into various age groups, with the Warsaw Wave coaches leading the children through some soccer specific exercises while members of the outstanding WCHS girls soccer program provided support.
It rained off and on throughout the morning, but that did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of campers as well as Tiger players.
“It’s encouraging to see that many kids out playing the sport they love despite the weather,” said Julie Frazzetta, one of the captains for coach Peter Lucht’s team.
Breck Jackson, another captain for the Tigers, noted the importance of the fact that the players around them would potentially be future soccer players for Warsaw High School.
“I enjoyed being one on one with the campers and getting to know them,” remarked Jackson. “I also enjoyed connecting with the players who are potential players for the Warsaw Soccer program in the future and teaching them skills that are essential parts to contribute in a game.”
The community players were able to participate in various activities that built up soccer skills like dribbling, passing and receiving, as well as playing small sided games. Warsaw girls soccer coach Peter Lucht and junior varsity coach Ty Propp were able to float around and communicate with community players, parents and grandparents.
“I think it is a really neat opportunity for the girls on the team to give back to the community,” said coach Lucht. “I was able to see several of our players interacting with the young people of our community, hoping to show them a little bit of love while passing along some of their soccer knowledge. Additionally, KCSL and Warsaw Wave are a part of the feeder system for the high school soccer team, and we want to have strong ties with both programs.”
All in all, despite the rain, and well – it is soccer, so maybe a little bit because of the rain – the experience was truly rewarding for both community players and the Warsaw girls soccer team.
“I really enjoyed spending the time with the kids and enhancing their soccer knowledge,” concluded captain Dayle Harvey of the Tigers. “It was truly a worthwhile experience.”
