Author Gabe Lyons Comes To Grace College
WINONA LAKE — Author of the book “Good Faith” Gabe Lyons spoke at chapel on Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Grace College in the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center, 601 Wooster Road, Winona Lake.
Lyons’ message was aimed towards equipping students with the skills to share their faith. Lyons spent a large portion of his time touching on how Americans view religion and how Christians view religion.
“By understanding the moment we’re in, we can move forward with confidence,” said Lyons.
Lyons mentioned a poll found that 47 percent of millennials are afraid to speak up about their faith, largely because of pressure they feel. He stated that many millennials admit they do not want to talk about their faith because they believe religion holds a negative connotation with it.
Lyons mentioned that a lot of millennials feel the need to hide faith because many people see religion as a huge problem in the world. He offered good faith was the solution. “Good faith is the anecdote to bad religion,” said Lyons.
He implored students to talk to people that are different from them. He explained that learning conflicting views and meeting new people will help students grow. Rather than shy away from issues that are controversial such as sexual orientation and homosexuality, he states people need to talk about subjects they do not agree on.
“Good faith Christians thoughtfully engage in the most divisive issues of our time,” said Lyons.
Lyons’ book, “Good Faith” was the required summer reading for incoming freshmen at Grace College. In his book, Lyons addresses how Christians should interact with a society that disagrees with their beliefs.
