Warsaw Girls Soccer: Tigers Roll On
FORT WAYNE – The Warsaw girls soccer team just continued to roll right along Monday night.
A fast start carried the Class 2-A No. 18 Tigers to a dominating 5-0 win at Fort Wayne Northrop.
Warsaw scored early and often en route to claiming its seventh straight victory of the season in the non-conference matchup.
The Tigers wasted no time in taking control as Breck Jackson scored in the second minute off a free kick for a 1-0 lead.
Warsaw added goals by Dayle Harvey in the fourth minute and Delaney Taylor in the 12th minute to lead 3-0. Julie Frazzetta added a goal in the first half to make it 4-0 at halftime. Abby Steffensmeier scored the final goal of the match early in the second half for the Tigers.
Frazzetta also had a pair of assists for the winners. Steffensmeier and Taylor each had one assist.
Goalies Chloe Snow and Kaylee Pattton each had two saves for Warsaw in the win.
“Each of our three captains (Julie Frazzetta, Breck Jackson, and Dayle Harvey) were picked for various reasons this season, but it is rather special that all three got on the board tonight with goals – especially considering that two of them are defenders,” said Warsaw coach Peter Lucht via email. “I also think that it was special in that we were able to finish opportunities early against a team that had been stingy up until that point in the season. Julie Frazzetta earned player of the match for her proving influential in the midfield and her goal and two assists. As nice as the scoreboard looks, I think the girls would agree with me that we still need to keep driving and still need to improve. We all have goals this season and I want the Tigers to be hungry.”
Warsaw improves to 9-3 overall on the season. The Tigers are a perfect 5-0 in Northern Lakes Conference play with league games left versus Wawasee (Sept. 24) and Northridge (Sept. 29).
Northrop won the junior varsity game by a 1-0 final. The Warsaw JV team falls to 2-6 on the season.
Warsaw hosts Columbia City Thursday night.
