Jimmie Dean Jones — UPDATED
Jimmie Dean Jones, 80, Warsaw, and formerly of Akron, passed at 4:55 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016 at Parkview Hospital of Fort Wayne.
He was born on Sept. 5, 1936 in Fulton County to Raymond R. and Arvada M. (Barnes) Jones.
He was a truck driver and had driven a tour bus for Imperial Bus Company for 16 years.
He was a 1956 graduate of Akron High School where he excelled playing basketball, running track, and playing baseball. He was a member of the 1956 Basketball Sectional Championship Team. He served his country for TWO years in the U.S. Marine Corp at Camp Lejeune of North Carolina.
He is survived by his daughters: Jennifer (Larry) Daine, Macy; Cindy (Mike) Martin, Warsaw; Dina Gearhart, Twelve Mile; a son: Jimmie Jr. (Janice) Jones, Silver Lake; nine grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren; his brothers: Jack (Chris) Jones, Fort Wayne; Ronald (Mary) Jones, Bremen; Donald (Dora) Jones, Akron.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Raymond and Arvada Jones; a brother: Kenneth E. Jones; a son-in-law: Larry Gearhart.
A service will be held to honor Mr. Jones’ memory at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 15 at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 West Rochester Street, Akron. Burial will be held at a later dat at Akron Cemetery. Those who wish to visit the family may do so from noon-1:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 15 at the funeral home.
