Grace Tennis: Lancers Top Spring Arbor
SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Grace College men’s tennis team took down Spring Arbor to move into second place in the Crossroads League on Tuesday.
The Lancers (3-2, 3-1 CL) spoiled the debut of Spring Arbor’s tennis complex with a 7-2 victory.
Grace won all three doubles’ positions to take a commanding lead over the Cougars (2-1, 2-1 CL).
Danila Kurkulin and Caleb Yoder showed tremendous resolve after being down 1-4, rallying to win 8-5 at No. 1 doubles.
Adam Yoder and Arturo Fonseca had a hard-fought 8-5 victory at No. 3 doubles, and Uros Pajic and Gabe Vervynckt cruised to an 8-1 victory at No. 2.
Kurkulin remained undefeated in league play with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles, and Pajic edged out his opponent 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2.
Vervynckt at No. 3 and Arturo Fonseca at No. 5 both won their respective singles’ matches in straight sets.
“This was a solid team win. Our doubles continues to be a strength for us,” said Grace head coach Larry Schuh. “Uros did a great job coming back after losing the first set, and Gabe played a very intelligent match against a heavy hitter. Danila continues to be an anchor for us.”
The Lancers end the week at the ITA Regional Tournament, held at Davenport University.
