Grace Tennis: Lancer Ladies Notch Another Win
WINONA LAKE – The Grace College women’s tennis team topped Spring Arbor 7-2 on Tuesday at Miller Athletic Complex.
The Lady Lancers’ fourth straight win catapulted the team into fourth place in the Crossroads League. Grace (5-2, 3-2 CL) sits just one-half game out of second place in the league standings.
Grace took two of the three doubles’ points to take an early lead over the Cougars (1-2, 1-2 CL). Carrie Copeland and Molly Fitzpatrick won 8-5 at No. 2, and Mariah Lewis and Gabrielle Lawrence claimed an 8-3 victory at No. 3.
Natalia Kurkova and Jenna Jackson rebounded from a close loss at the top doubles’ position to win in singles. Kurkova won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, and Jackson battled to a three-set win at No. 3 by the score of 6-4, 5-7, 10-4.
Fitzpatrick also won in three sets at No. 4 singles (6-2, 3-6, 10-4). Lawrence eased away for a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles, and Jayna Huber nearly blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6.
The Lady Lancers end the week at the ITA Regional Tournament, held at Davenport University.
