Rain Postpones Cubs-Whitecaps Playoff Game
SOUTH BEND – Rain halted play of the playoff baseball game Friday night between the South Bend Cubs and West Michigan Whitecaps.
The score was knotted at 3-3 in the eighth inning when a constant downpour stopped the game. West Michigan’s Arvicent Perez opened the top of the eighth with a single which had the rain then stop play. There are no outs in the inning and Perez will return to first when the game is resumed Saturday at 4:05 p.m.
South Bend had taken a 3-0 lead to open the game up. Connor Myers had an RBI triple, then added an RBI double to plate the third run. Tyler Alamo added an RBI double for the second Cubs run.
Cam Gibson got West Michigan on the board with an RBI single, followed by a Joey Havrilak RBI double. David Gonzalez tied the game in the sixth inning with a sacrifice bunt.
The winner of the game will take the three-game series after both teams won their respective home games on Wednesday in Michigan and Thursday in South Bend.
